How Sweet it is
Did you know that Vermont produces 40% of the maple syrup in the United States? The season started early this year, and so far the sap has been running well. With cold nights and warmer days this week, it should continue. With that, Sugarmakers across the state will be offering gallons of the best maple syrup around, along with a variety of other maple products. The following are some local favorites.
- Nebraska Knoll Sugar Farm invites visitors daily and offers an educational blog, complete with a weather report, sap sweetness and boiling status of each day.
- Stowe Maple Products, a family-owned and operated sugar house, is open year-round with retail items. They will even ship your syrup to you.
- Boyden Valley Winery will have some free samples during Vermont’s Maple Open House Weekend, March 25th and 26th; and will be offering sugar-on-snow, maple wine and maple liqueurs, as well as free tours of the winery and sugar house.
- Sugar Slalom, Sunday, April 8th, at Stowe Mountain Resort. A ski race for all ages that's been held at the Mountain, since 1940. A weekend long celebration of spring skiing and festivities, which attracts hundreds.
